I close my eyes on the dance floor and for a split second, I can forget about you. I feel the music flow threw my veins, down my spine, finding its way around the electrical currents and back out of my body. But once I open my eyes, I see your face in every sweat stained lonely boy looking for a good time. The way their eyes roll around in their skulls and aim themselves into mine with pure hatred and longing remind me of the way you used to look at me. I close my eyes again, but that sense of ease and forgetfulness is long gone. Just. Like. You.
It's four in the morning and as I walk home on the dark city streets I get a rush that reminds me of the feeling I had when I first saw you and then every time I saw you after that. My feet are sore and I drank too much, but that just adds to the thrill. I pass run down buildings, fancy restaurants and greasy pubs but nothing feels like home. I don't know where I'm walking to but I'm free to say I won't be scared anymore once I get there. I hear a bottle crash to the ground and my heart skips a beat and ends up in my throat. But I shake it off and start walking faster. The cool night breeze brings a shiver down my spine and I hold my arms close to my body, hoping for the warm comfort like a hug from someone you used to know.
I walk for about forty five minutes before I reach my destination. It's my own personal oasis in a concrete wasteland. I close my eyes and I revisit the warm summer nights we would spend here, together. I hear you laugh amongst the crashing waves. I can still feel your cool touch on my sun bathed body. But as I open my eyes I realize that tonight it's silent and the lake is dark, black and dead.

I am the Shipwrecked Man
I am the shipwrecked man,
Lost, exhausted, buried in sand.
Fields of turquoise all mine eyes can see.
A million baby blues all smiling at me.
Lost, exhausted, buried in sand,
I plead with the tide, "This is all that I am!"
A million baby blues smiling at me,
Mocking, hissing, spitting with glee.
I plead with the tide, "This is all that I am!
A Seadog, A Pirate, I am simply a man!"
Mocking, hissing, spitting with glee,
My cruel mistress whispers nothing to me.
I release myself, rise from my knees.
Fields of turquoise all mine eyes can see.
She waves goodbye when water meets land.
I am the shipwrecked man.
